Soulja Boy was arrested on the morning of January 24, 2017.
TMZ got right on the scene, maintaining their reputation as the most dedicated and nosy group of paparazzi in Hollywood. TMZ’s Law Enforcement contacts told them that cops found tons of weed and loads of cash.
21-year-old rapper Deandre Cortez Way A.K.A. Soulja Boy was caught early in the morning of January 24, at 3:15 AM
Soulja Boy was in an Escalade with four other people in the car when they were pulled over by police for what was a traffic violation. Upon Searching the car, officers claim to have discovered, marijuana and cash inside the vehicle. The value of the drugs and money is estimated to be worth around $70,000. In addition to these items, police officers also found a number of firearms, though it is to be determined whether Deandre Way had the appropriate licenses for them.
Later in the day, at around 9:15 AM, Deandre Way, along with the four other passengers were arrested for possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The day before, on January 23, Deandre Way was already dealing with serious legal trouble when he was hit with two serious felonies: possession of an assault weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The assault weapon charge was related to a gun that officials seized from his home during a raid conducted by police mid-December. The gun was a Mini Draco AR-15, a weapon which is illegal to own in the state of California. Deandre Way had been seen flaunting this gun, along with many of his other firearms on social media such as Instagram and Snapchat.
Police had been led to his home following a “Crime Stoppers tip” claiming that he had been making online threats using his guns. Deandre Way believes that snitches are the reason for his arrest, but snitches or not, police would’ve found out anyway due to his regular posting in which his weapons were featured.
Deandre Way was on probation at the time; this probation came from another time the rapper was arrested in 2014 for possession of a loaded gun. He and his lawyer were able to make a deal; he would be free, on probation. On top of this probation, he would not be allowed to possess any firearms.
If he is convicted, he could be looking at about four years in prison.
